Shelf Life of Common Products

Hi all! I thought I would do a quick post on the shelf life of products! I know we all get a little "stock up" crazy when it comes to getting a great deal on a product, but what happens when we get so much of that product that we start to lose it before we can use it? Then, it's not such a good deal after all. I considered this one day as I look at my laundry detergent stockpile that's roughly 30 bottles strong at the moment! So I looked it up!!


Laundry Detergent: lasts 2 years from the manufacture date. It doesn't STOP working, but the ingredients start to separate and it doesn't work as well! I didn't know that!


Deodorant: lasts 2-3 years depending on the manufacturer!


Air Freshener/Aerosol: 2 years!


Bleach: 3-6 months!


Dish Detergent Liquid or Powder: 1 year!


Mr. Clean: 2 yrs!


Windex: 2 years!


Pledge: 2 years!


Bar Soap: 18 months-3 years!


Body Wash: 3 years!


Dipilatories (i.e. Nair, Veet) 6 months opened, 12 months unopened!


Body Lotion: 3 years!


Conditioner: 2-3 years!


Deodorant: unopened: 2 years, opened/used 1-2 years!


Eye Cream: unopened: 3 years, used 1 year.


Face Lotion: with SPF: will have an expiration date. All others 3 years or more.


Oil Based Foundation: 2 years


Water Based Foundation: 3 years


Hair Gel and Hair Spray: 2-3 years


Lip Balm: 5 years unopened, used 1-5 years


Lipstick: 2 years


Mascara: unopened: 2 years. Used 3-4 months


Mouthwash: 3 years from manufacture date


Nail Polish: 1 year


Nail Polish Remover: doesn't expire!!!!


Perfume: 1-2 years


Rubbing Alcohol: at least 3 years


Shampoo: 2-3 years


Shaving Cream: 2 years or more


Tooth Whitening Strips: 13 months





Bath oil: One year
Blush/Bronzer: 18 months after first use

Concealer
12 months after first use
Creme eye shadow
6 months after first use
Creme blush
12 months after first use
Eye and lip pencils
Three to five years. Sharpen them before each use as a way to preserve them and keep them clean.



Hairstyling products
Three to five years. Most are alcohol-based, which helps preserve the formula.

Lipstick and lip gloss
18 months after first use

Liquid eyeliner
3 months after first use

Sunscreen
6 months after first use
